Code
NUWAHO
Status
Formal (Westerhoff & Weerts 2003).
Lithological description
Light brownish grey fine to medium sand, slightly calcareous, micaceous, common greenish grey clay pebbles and organic detritus, local clay layers and laminae. White very fine to fine sand, non-calcareous, with flasers. Local clay cap. Overall fining-upward sequence.
Depositional setting
Tidal channel, sand flat.
Definition of lower boundary
Sharp contact with shallow-marine and coastal sand and clay (Maassluis Formation).
Definition of upper boundary
Locally exposed at the surface. Elsewhere, sharp unconformable contact with fluvial sand (Waalre Formation, undifferentiated) or with finer tidal sand (Woensdrecht Member, Waalre Formation).
Thickness indication
Up to about 10 m.
Geographical distribution
Southwestern Netherlands.
Regional correlation
North Sea: not distinguished; UK: not present; GER: not present; BEL: Rijkevorsel Member, Weelde Formation (Kempen Group; Wouters & Vandenberghe 1994).
Age
Early Pleistocene (Tiglian).

Comments:
Borehole Kalmthoutse Hoek is suggested by Kasse (1988, p.26), possibly this is borehole kb7d6w-B15 from 1895 in Flanders (DOV).
Hypostratotype
Well:
Not yet determined.
Depth (thickness) AH:
Not yet determined.
Comments:
Borehole B49G0204 (Huijbergen) is proposed by Westerhoff (2009).
Origin of name
Named after the village of Hoogerheide in the southwestern Netherlands, close to the Belgian border.
Previous name(s)
Originally part of the Tegelen Formation (Kasse 1988).
