ROCLL
Status
Formal (NAM & RGD 1980). Amended (Van Adrichem Boogaert & Kouwe 1994).
Lithological description
Thick, red-brown, sandy clay- and siltstone interval with some intercalated sand-/siltstone stringers and beds. Anhydritic nodules are common in the claystones of some intervals. Some thin carbonate, anhydrite, and halite beds can occur locally.
Depositional setting
Playa lake to mudflat.
Definition of lower boundary
Unconformably on the grey coal measures or orange-red, nodular claystones of the Limburg Group. In some instances (e.g. well N04-01) a thin Lower Slochteren Member is found at the base of the member.
Definition of upper boundary
Conformably by the Silverpit Evaporite Member. The boundary is placed at the base of the first thick evaporite (halite or locally anhydrite) bed.
Thickness indication
Up to 237 m.
