Formeel (Van Adrichem Boogaert & Kouwe 1994).

Ingeschakelde laag van roodbruine siltsteen of siltige kleisteen. In de westelijke Nederlandse offshore en zuidelijke onshore is het ontwikkeld als een massieve, lichtgekleurde, arkosische zandsteen. Kenmerkend zijn hier het hoge kwartsgehalte en kwartscementatie in de zandstenen. In de noordelijke offshore komt in de buurt van Zechstein zoutdiapieren haliet cementatie voor.

Fluviatiel tot eolisch in de zuidelijke gebieden (Ames & Farfan 1996) en het Eems Diep; voornamelijk eolisch in de Centrale Noordzee Slenk (Fontaine et al. 1993).
