Delivering borehole research

Within the borehole research several different types of data are recognised that per type have their own demands concerning delivery to DINOor, in the future, to the BRO (Subsurface Key Register). For optimal reuse we strive to reveive the data in digital form as much as possible. Due to that the historic informatie is not always available in such way, we offer the possibility to deliver the data in another form. This may come with charges for processing costs. More details are provided per data type below.

Within the borehole research the follwing data types are recognised:

  1. Borehole sample description (Per July 4th, 2017, the BRO is available for pedalogical borehole sample description. As far as known, Wageningen Environmental Research (Alterra) is the only provider.)
  2. Borehole sample analyses
  3. Borehole sample photographs
  4. Borehole measurements

In delivering information of a borehole research to DINO we assume that you start with delivering a borehole sample description. Because of this delivery you will get an NITG-number under which the boring is registered in DINO. Then you could supply aother types of information of this boring with this NITG-number. In the delivery of data notification should be made that the data concerns the same boring.

1. Borehole sample description

A borehole sample description is a description of the drilled part of the subsurface in terms of layers. The borehole sample descriptions are nowadays often made in the field and directly registered in a field computer. Therefore, the information is electronically available and can be exchanged digitally, which is preferred. Historically this information is stored on paper or as image (JPG/PDF/etc.). Borehole sample descriptions could be stored in DINO as digital data or as image with metadata. Below you find more information on how to deliver the data. Pedalogical borehole sample descriptions do not fall hereunder. Information about the delivery of pedalogical borehole sample descriptions to the BRO Can be found on basisregistratieondergrond.nl.

A. Digital data

Information below is specifically for borehole sample descriptions. See the other types of information of borehole research for their specifics.

A.1 How can I deliver data?

Exclusively per email via info@dinoloket.nl.

A.2 In which format could I deliver data?

Dgital data can be delivered in several formats:
  • GEF-BORE report (version 1.0.0)
  • TerraIndex export dBase III/IV file
  • Boris XML-file (version 1.3/1.4)(in Dutch)

A.3 Which conditions apply to the data?

Additional conditions for data of GEF-BORE and TerraIndex are described per format in the following documents: Boris is able to validate files with Boris XML on format and content.

A.4 What will be validated?

After delivery, the data are validated on format and conditions. Doubling in borehole research is also checked, within the delivery as well as in respect to the data already in DINO.

A.5 What is the processing timespan?

Processing of the data takes twenty working days on average.

A.6 Do I receive a notification of the validation and processing?

You will receive a notification if the data are not conform the agreed format and/or the conditions. If the data are valid, then you will receive an overview with NITG-numbers under which the data are processed and available.

A.7 Where will the data be made available?

After the data are processed in DINO, they are made available the next day via dinoloket.nl.

A.8 What are the costs?

Intake of data will have no costs if the delivered data are conform the specified format and conditions.

A.9 What changes with the Subsurface Key Register (Basisregistratie Ondergrond, BRO)?

As soon as the BRO becomes available for a certain part of the borehole research from a particular descipline, you cannot deliver your digital data to the DINO department anymore. From that moment you could deliver your data to the BRO. See Basisregistratieondergrond.nl (In Dutch) for more information. What this means for other types of data within a borehole research has yet to be determined.

B. Image with metadata (alternative for archives)

Find below the information about supplying images with metadata, exclusively of borehole sample descriptions. Would you want to deliver images of borehole sample analyses, photographs or measurements, contact us via info@dinoloket.nl.

B.1 How can I deliver data?

Per email via info@dinoloket.nl. If delivery per email is causing difficulty, alternative solutions could be considered.

B.2 In which format could I deliver data?

Images could have the formats JPEG, PDF or TIFF. In addition to the images, you will need to provide an Excel-file with metadata of the images/objects.

B.3 Which conditions apply to the data?

De Image
For the images there are no specific demands. However, that quality should be sufficient to make the information well legible. At least one image should be supplied per boring.

Metadata file
Per delivery an Excel-file (example metadata file (in Dutch)) should be provided in which, per image and boring, the metadata is included (If the example file does not open directly, it is recommended to store the file first before opening.). In this file the following aspects should be described.

Mandatory for processeing and reuse:
  1. Name image file
  2. Type of information
  3. Coordinate system/Horizontal datum reference
  4. X-coordinate
  5. Y-coordinate
Preferred for reuse:
  1. Date/time boring
  2. Boring depth
  3. Local vertical reference point
  4. Description standard
  5. Reference plane
  6. Reference height related to NAP/MSL
  7. Method determining place
  8. Method determining height
Preferred for an optimal control:
  1. Work number boring
  2. Project number
  3. Project name
  4. Operator
  5. Accountable party

B.4 What will be validated?

After delivery, the data are validated on format and conditions. Doubling in borehole research is also checked, within the delivery as well as in respect to the data already in DINO. To be able to execute this validation correctly, it is important that the metadata is provided as complete as possible.

B.5 What is the processing timespan?

Processing of the data takes thirty workdays on average.

B.6 Do I receive a notification of the validation and processing?

You will receive a notification if the data are not conform the agreed format and/or the conditions. If the data are valid, then you will receive an overview with NITG-numbers under which the data are processed and available.

B.7 Where will the data be made available?

After the data are processed in DINO, they are made available the next day via dinoloket.nl

B.8 What are the costs?

For processing the data in this form processing costs are charged. Per delivery these are € 250,- plus € 1,- per image.

B.9 What changes with the Subsurface Key Register (Basisregistratie Ondergrond, BRO)?

Borehole data in the form of images are not part of the BRO. The supplied data remain available www.dinoloket.nl. In addition, delivering data in this form and to have them stored will still be possible, so they will be made available to the public via www.dinoloket.nl.

C. Other forms (For example paper) or formats?

If you have other forms or formats available, these cannot readily be added to DINO. We may be able to help you processing the data to make them available via www.dinoloket.nl. For this you can contact info@dinoloket.nl.

2. Borehole sample analyses

Borehole sample analyses concern de results of analyses on samples, or part thereof, directly obtained from a boring. An analysis produces independent of the discipline a specific result and, therfore, can be used within various disciplines. It is preferable and advisable to record this information in DINO in digital form as much as possible. Some analysis results will be stored in tabular from in DINO. Other analysis results can be delivered in several file formats like PDF and TIFF. Because the delivery procedure and - conditions are not consistent for borehole sample analyses, you better contact info@dinoloket.nl to ask for the specific delivery procedure and - conditions applicable to your your borehole sample analysis.

3. Borehole sample photographs

Borehole sample photographs thay can be recorded in DINO are digital photographs of the samples obtained by a boring, of part of samples or of specific details in those samples. There are ment to record structures or other aspects that are insufficiently reveiled in a borehole sample description. For the delivery of borehole sample photographs an borehole sample description should already have been delivered. If you are planning to supply borehole sample photographs, we ask you to contact us via info@dinoloket.nl.

4. Borehole measurements

Borehole measurements are data registered bij measuring equipment lowered into the borehole and/or data from processing these registered measurements. The data could be recorded in two ways, as digital data file and as an image. The digital data file is preferable , because this form provides the best reusability.
