Lithologische beschrijving
Cyclic alternation of limestones, claystones, sandstones and rare coal seams. The number of limestone beds is variable.
Afzettingsmilieu
Under paralic conditions. Frequent marine incursions resulted in the formation of marine limestones and claystones.
Definitie ondergrens
Placed at the base of the first distinct limestone bed overlying the clastics of the Elleboog Formation.
Definitie bovengrens
Defined by the top of the uppermost well developed limestone bed. Conformably overlain by the Epen Formation, which locally contains some minor carbonate intercalations in its basal part.

Oorsprong naam
Named after the Yoredale facies of the Mississippien (Upper Dinantian and Lower Namurian), occurring in northeastern England.
