Lithologische beschrijving

Several stacked alternations of off-white to pink sandstones and red claystones. Arkosic sandstones without claystone intercalations in the southern Netherlands onshore and offshore.

Afzettingsmilieu

Lacustrine conditions, whereas clastic (fluvial) deposition was mainly confined to the basin margins.

Definitie ondergrens

Placed at the base of the first sandstone bed above the Detfurth Formation.

Definitie bovengrens

Placed at the base of the Upper Germanic Trias Group (Hardegsen Unconformity).

Dikte indicatie
Up to 200 m in the Ems Low and Dutch Central Graben. Up to 70 m in the Broad Fourteens Basin, the West Netherlands Basin and the Roer Valley Graben.
