Status
Formal (NAM & RGD 1980). Amended (Van Adrichem Boogaert & Kouwe 1993).
Lithological description
Section of grey, fossiliferous, silty/sandy claystones, which are typically far more calcareous than the Upper Coevorden or Lower Coevorden Members ('t Hart 1969).
Depositional setting
Marginal- to open-lacustrine setting with rare marine influence. Fines settled from suspension. Limestone (microcoquina) beds are interpreted as storm deposits or periods of low sediment input (hardgrounds).
Definition of lower boundary
With the Lower Coevorden Members.
Definition of upper boundary
With the Upper Coevorden. Where the Upper Coevorden Member has been truncated, it can be overlain by generally glauconitic sediments of the Rijnland Group, or by the North Sea Supergroup rocks.
Thickness indication
Generally less than 100 m, up to 150 m in LOS wells.
