Status
Informal. Only a few wells in the Netherlands have reached rocks older than the Devonian. The limited data do not allow for a formal lithostratigraphical description of the strata encountered. First mentioned in Van Adrichem Boogaert & Kouwe (1994).
Lithological description
Mudstones, dark grey to black.
Depositional setting
Foreland basin. Well O18-01 lies close to well 53/16-1 in the UK sector of the North Sea and the turbidite facies in both indicate a Silurian deep-water basin extending from the UK to Belgium and the Netherlands (Pharaoh 1999; De Vos et al. 2010).
