Lithological description
A white to light-grey marl with a very calcareous upper part and a more argillaceous lower part.
Depositional setting
Fairly deep basin-centre position, where sedimentation was dominated by settling of pelagic bioclastics.
Definition of lower boundary
Marked by a transition into dark brownish-grey to grey shaly claystones of the Vlieland Claystone Formation.
Definition of upper boundary
With the Lower Holland Marl Member is marked by a sharp transition into red-brown claystones.
Thickness indication
Up to 200 m.
