Lithological description

Grey to brown claystone or marl, in places dolomitic or anhydritic. Shows an upwards increase in carbonate content, grading from claystone into marl.

Depositional setting

Shallow marine, carbonate slope.

Definition of lower boundary

Placed at the top of the Fringe Coppershale Member.

Definition of upper boundary

Placed at the base of the first prominent carbonate bed of the Z1 Fringe Carbonate Member.
