Lithological description

Light grey to yellow fine to medium sand, non-calcareous, sporadic granule and organic detrital laminae.

Depositional setting

Aeolian (drift sand).

Definition of lower boundary

Generally, gradual transition into aeolian coversand (Wierden Member, Boxtel Formation). Sharp contact with palaeosol at the top of the Wierden Member.

Definition of upper boundary

Exposed at the surface.

Thickness indication
Up to 10 m.
Geographical distribution
Patchy in the eastern (Pleistocene) half of the Netherlands.
Regional correlation
North Sea: not present; UK: part of Britannia Catchments Group, cover loam and coversand (McMillan et al. 2011); GER: ?; BEL: Hechtel Formation, Kalmthout Member (Vernes et al. 2018).
