Greyish brown to dark grey clay, (moderately) firm, silty, micaceous, rare shell fragments.
Depositional setting
Shoreface (with tempestites).
Definition of lower boundary
Variable contact with shallow-marine, estuarine, deltaic, nearshore and beach deposits (Oosterhout Formation undifferentiated).
Definition of upper boundary
Sharp contact with slightly coarser and less glauconitic shallow-marine near-coastal sand (Maassluis Formation) or with coarser fluvial and estuarine sand (Waalre Formation).
Thickness indication
Up to about 10 m.
Geographical distribution
Southern and southwestern Netherlands.
Regional correlation
North Sea: part of the Brielle Ground Formation; VK: not present; GER: not present; BEL: clayey part of the Lillo Formation (Vernes et al. 2018).
