Lithological description

Grey clay, slightly silty to sandy, brown to black peat, and grey to brown very fine to fine sand.

Depositional setting

Meandering fluvial, with channel belt and flood basin (Rhine; Peeters et al. 2015).

Definition of lower boundary

Gradual transition into fluvio-deltaic sand (Twello Member, Kreftenheye Formation).

Definition of upper boundary

Sharp contact with fine to medium periglacial sand (Boxtel Formation).

Thickness indication
Up to about 12 m in the IJssel Valley glacial basin.
Geographical distribution
Near the IJssel river in the central-eastern Netherlands.
Regional correlation
North Sea: not present; UK: not present; GER: not distinguished; BEL: not present.

Late Pleistocene (Eemian).
